Neil Fingleton (18 December 1980 – 25 February 2017) was an English actor, and former basketball player, who happened to be the tallest British-born man, as well as the tallest man within the European Union. He stood at 7 ft 7.56 in (232.6 cm) in height and was among the 25 tallest men in the world.
Acting wise, the number of genre related productions Neil had appeared in, looked like a fanboy's dream. From superhero movies such as X-Men: First Class and Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, to science fiction and fantasy epics like Jupiter Ascending and 47 Ronin, it's safe to say he had most bases covered.
In Doctor Who, he portrayed the character of The Fisher King, who was the main viilian in the 2-part story Before the Flood, which was written by Toby Whitehouse and aired in 2015.
However, despite appearing in all these productions, it was perhaps his portrayal of Mag the Mighty in HBO's Game of Thrones that had earned him the most accolade. Indeed his onscreen presence stole most of the scenes he appeared in, and given the very nature of the show, you have to ask if he was due to appear again.
ECC are grateful that Neil had agreed to appear as part of our 2017 line up, and although our professional relationship was somewhat short, it was truly a pleasure to have known him.
